It was midnight…H and I were in bed…and suddenly it happened…fireworks all around…oh yeah…
So we hurried downstairs to catch the fireworks show for Chinese New Year. Heh.
*giggles*
It was so much fun to catch the pretty lights as the fireworks kept going off for several minutes..showers of yellow, red, blue, green, violet…so pretty! We’re lucky because we can view the fireworks from our living room, so there’s no need to go to the city just to see them.
Gong xi fa cai everyone!

Are you frustrated about what’s going on in the Philippines? Have you ever told yourself that you want to do something to help. I just found out about an organization that wants to do just that.
Rock Ed Philippines – Rocking Society Through Education. Its website says, No More Excuses, Philippines! RockEd, basically, is involved in an anti-poverty awareness campaign that they aim to achieve through alternative education.
One of their upcoming projects, the Philippine Relief Map Cleaning Project, is coming up on 27 January 2006, 3pm & 28-29 January 2006 (whole day). They’re looking for volunteers to help clean Luneta Park’s Philippine relief map and the pool surrounding it. Text them at 0906-271-7287 or email rockedphilippines@yahoo.com if you want to take on a shift.

A few days ago, my husband’s almost 93-year old grandfather invited me to his room for a small chat. Among other things, he told me that I should learn Chinese since I married into a Chinese family. I have no problem with that concept, since I’ve long wanted to learn Chinese anyway.
So anyway, fast forward to today. While he was eating dinner, he called me again and gave me a note that said:
Monday Wednesday Friday – Anytime 1 hour learning Chinese
He said it can be either morning or afternoon or whatever. But the funniest part is when he said, “If you have to go out on those days, just give me an excuse letter.”
So funny!
But who knows, I may just take him up on his offer.

Jogging
I was tossing and turning in my sleep, the room was dark, and I couldn’t sleep. So I checked my phone and found out it was already 7 am anyway.
Since I couldn’t sleep anymore, I decided to get up, put on my running shoes, and went out running. Okay, walking with some running inserted. :Þ
I took the stairs from our sixth floor unit down to the swimming pool, walked the loop around the complex, then walked out onto the jogging path.
I ran into old people walking, maids walking dogs, saw some people about to do tai chi near the stadium, cut back across the bridge, ran past Pebble Bay, went back to our condo, circled the pool a couple times more, then took the stairs back up.
What a satisfying way to start a morning! I wish I could do this everyday! So maybe here’s to more sleepless mornings? Heh.

So what is it about actors imitating real life people in movies that make them win awards? Julia Roberts did it with Erin Brockovich, Charlize Theron in Monster, Jamie Foxx in Ray, and just yesterday, three actors did it as well. Joaquin Phoenix (Johnny Cash) and Reese Witherspoon (June Carter Cash) in Walk the Line, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote! That’s three major awards for actors who impersonated real people all in one awards night.
Meanwhile, AI will premiere again tonight, yay! Can’t wait to watch the auditions because I’m sure they’ll be funny as anything. And on February 6, season 2 of Desperate Housewives will start on Mediacorp’s channel 5. Grey’s Anatomy has just started, so these shows will replace the other shows I’ve been watching that have reached their finale (House, Las Vegas, DH season 1 on Star World). Can’t wait!

Hah! I resisted the temptation of going through the buffet line today!
H and I chose to have a meal from the ala carte menu instead, while my mother in law and sister in law chose buffet. My roasted Hainanese chicken rice was quite enough for me, thank you. Don’t think there was any less calories though.
Ugh, I don’t want this to turn into a food/diet diary. Haha, it’s just that here in Singapore, it seems like a lot of the things we do revolve around food. Good thing too, because to be perfectly frank, our help doesn’t cook all that well. Which could be a good thing because I unintentionally get to diet when we do eat at home.
It’s been another gloomy day; I think it’s been raining practically non stop since Sunday, if you can believe that. And they say it’s around two more weeks till the monsoon season ends. At this point, it seems like the rain will never stop. As long as I’m indoors and not walking around in puddles though, you won’t hear me complain!

Scene: Cafebiz, after our meal, while the waitress was clearing the dishes.
H: We’d like to order a tiramisu, please.
Waitress: When?
Me (in my head): Huhhhh?
Me (aloud): Uh, now?
lol.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but…I want to go shopping! We went to Tampines Mall & Century Square today, and I saw lots of stores where I actually saw clothes I wanted to try on. Unfortunately, it wasn’t part of our agenda today so I didn’t get to, but methinks I should go shopping soon.
If only I could snap off my fingers and shave inches off just like that, then shopping would be even more fun.

I can’t believe it literally rained the whole day today. When I woke up, it was so dark because of the rain that I thought it was only 7 am. So once again, I got a rude shock when I realized it was already ten. It was so cool and dark the whole day; I bet a lot of people were grateful that it’s Sunday today and they can just lounge around the house and relax.
It was the kind of day when you’d want to wear your rattiest clothes, sip a mug of piping hot chocolate, pop an oldies CD into the stereo, and cuddle up with your SO. For us though, it meant watching DVD, eating some chocolates, then heading over to the airport for a Sakae Sushi dinner.
Speaking of Sakae Sushi, have I mentioned that I love eating there? We usually get a table by the conveyor belt that carries along different kinds of sushi, and it’s fabulous. By the end of the meal, we usually have a pretty big stack of plates just waiting to be counted. I love the ebi fried maki, the spicy salmon gunkan, the soft shell crab maki, california maki, kani salad gunkan, and loads of other kinds of sushi. Yum yum.

I can’t believe that I woke up much later than H again! Back when we were just dating (aka when I was still in my own room in Manila), I would always wake up earlier than him. But now that I’m here, he consistently wakes up earlier. Which makes me feel like a lazy bum. Back home, I’d be awake at around 7 – 8 am without work, and around 5:45 am on workdays. But now…I just keep waking up later and later.
For instance today, when I woke up, I was shocked to realize that it was already 10:30 am. And just when I thought that he had also just woken up as well, wah, he’s already been awake for an hour, has eaten brekkie and has gone back up. Ugh.
My excuses: we slept past two am! The shades keep our room dark! Still makes me feel so lazy though. Hay. What’s the matter with me?!?

So yeah, technically, I should be on a diet. So why is it that last night, while drifting off to sleep, all I can do is crave for lechon kawali?? Mm, with the crispylicious skin, tender meat (even the fat!), steaming white rice, plus Mang Tomas lechon sauce. Yummy.
Never mind, I woke up to a steaming bowl of oatmeal anyway. Drat.
