the weekend
Is it really Sunday night already?
It feels like the weekend literally just flew by. Hours plonked down on the couch watching tv, finishing Season Four of Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I’m awfully late), surfing the Net – and getting annoyed yet again at my webhost (for my mom’s company, that is) – hmm.. making lumpiang shanghai, polishing off a couple of slices of pizza.
Yeah, that was pretty much my weekend. And with a little bit of work on the side thrown in of course, because that’s just how my work is. It invades personal time unabashedly, unashamedly.
I seriously want to take a holiday. The question is, how can I fit in everything I need and want to do with the amount of leave days that I have?
Is it wrong that one of my main motivations to go to work before 9 am is to buy my breakfast sandwich which gets sold out if I get there too late?
Overheard
I was standing beside two Pinoy guys on the train today, when this middle-aged lady started squeezing her way past to get to a ‘better’ position on the crowded train.
Sabi sa akin, “Can’t you wait till the door opens?”. Sagot ko: “What do you expect me to do? Fly?”
Haha, that just made me want to snicker. Pinoy humour talaga.
Funny lang, because they were talking about basketball – apparently Guy 1 plays basketball in a league here in Singapore. And he was saying something about how intense guys can get. Then they started talking about PBA players..and heh, they were talking about players I used to watch when I was a kid too! Distrito, Jawo, Caidic, Jolas…haha.
Disturbia
Have you watched that Shia LeBeouf movie Disturbia? It’s the one where he gets put on house arrest because he assaulted his Spanish teacher. I remember there was a line there where an officer said something to the effect that people on house arrest can go crazy.
Luckily for me, I haven’t gone crazy. I’m practically always at home, alone, while waiting to start my new job. Hubby is out the whole day working, and I’m only with him at nights and on weekends.
But I do have a gift for never getting bored at home and keeping myself occupied. While most probably would go crazy being home alone most of the time, the opposite is true for me. In fact, a lot of times, it seems like the day is never long enough to do everything I want to do, whether it’s reading or being online, watching tv or dvds, doing household chores or just lazing about.
I have no clue when I’ll start my new job, so I’d just better enjoy this while it lasts.
Back to normal
Oh, thank heavens. Our aircon is fixed! Back to cool, cool, air.
The past weekend has been a really hot one. With only our borrowed kitchen fan to keep us cool in this tropical climate, and cold shower after cold shower, we have been desperately awaiting the arrival of the aircon technician.
It was some defective thingamajig, apparently, which they thankfully got to replace. I don’t really care about the whys and hows, only that it’s fixed!
It really makes you realize that you only realize just how important something is once you lose it! Thank God it was only the aircon, and that it was easily repaired, and not a person or a relationship, or some other important thing.
hot, hot hot
It is hot.
And not just because Singapore is so near to the equator. It’s hot because for some reason, the aircon here in our room just decided to conk out. Just when I had gotten a nice blanket from Ikea the other day to stop me from freezing when we go online at night, now it’s just terribly hot in here.
The thing is, we don’t even have a fan to fall back on, since whenever we feel hot, the a/c remote is just a click away. So now, we’re really at the mercy of the a/c service repair company, which can only come here on Monday. How we’ll survive the weekend, I have no clue. Maybe we can get the fan from the kitchen, but it sure can’t compare to 22C temp at night to keep us nice and cozy under our comforter.
It feels like how it used to feel when Manila used to get hit by brownouts everyday (remember that?), except that we still have lights. I’m just worried now of my laptop overheating..acck!
*cue music* Feeling hot, hot, hot!
power of suggestion
Just one more proof that it doesn’t take much to influence me, so to speak.
Fact 1: I listened to this morning’s Rush Hour Cafe held at Seattle’s Best Coffee.
Fact 2: A few minutes ago, a friend asked me where I wanted to hang out this afternoon.
Equals: I answered that I felt like going to SBC.
Swayed by advertisement, that’s me.
ouch
Ouch, my eyes hurt. It must be all the chlorine that my eyes soaked up in the pool awhile ago. I wasn’t even planning to go swimming, but when I sat down to dangle my foot into the water, my dad literally pulled me into the pool! Wet and dripping, I had no choice but to just keep swimming anyway. Oh well. Eye-mo, be my friend.
