Our third anniversary as a married couple is coming up, and I’m wondering what we can do to celebrate it.
On the one hand, this is a special day and I’d like to splurge. On the other hand, since money is a bit tight, I’d still like to rein in the expenses.
So I’m trying to find something to do that will be both special and won’t break the bank. Got a few more days to think!

Married…with…
Being married really raises the bar of a couple’s expectations, obligations and responsibilities to each other. From simple things that are done or not done, there is that thought at the back of your mind that your husband/wife should or should not be doing so and so thing if only for the simple reason that you are married.
More than being in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, having that ring means that you share your life with that person forever, for better or worse. This means making even more of an effort to be the best that you can be, to give all that you can for the person you married.
In the same way, little mistakes get magnified, with the line, “How can you (insert action here) when I’m your husband/wife?” coming into play.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, marriage is definitely not all fun and games. While it’s lovely to finally be with the person you love, it also comes with its own sets of trials. Marriage can be work; very hard work. If you want to get married, make sure that you’re really in it for the long haul, and be prepared for lots of challenges along the way.

A New Day
When I first got here in Singapore a year ago, after my husband and I got married, we tended to our ice cream business. It wasn’t really a full time thing, in that we didn’t have an office and we’d just go when we had appointments and deliveries and whatnot. It was a wholesale distribution setup, so we didn’t have to be in a store the whole day.
All that has changed now. In the span of less than a month, my husband’s family and I are now immersed in a brand new business; one that involves coffee, milk, and food. You get the picture. We have been undergoing training for the last couple of weeks, and boy, is it tiring, believe you me!
I’ve been learning new skills, been working hard, been learning everything I need to know so that I can help run the business effectively. I’ve even managed to fulfill a lifelong dream: to run the cash register! Haha.
It’s a lot of fun, and also a lot of hard work. My customer service skills are now back in action. I get to talk to a lot more people, see more people. A lot of booboos and cheers.
As Michael Buble would sing: It’s a new day, it’s a new dawn, it’s a new life…for me. And I’m feeeeeeling gooood.
So exciting!
