Gilmore Girls

I’m probably a few years too late, but I’m so into watching the Gilmore Girls right now.

I never used to watch it when it was being shown on Studio 23 back in Manila, but I’m sure making up for it now.

I’ve been borrowing the season five dvds, plus watching it on Channel 5 as they show the seventh season here.

But I seriously want to watch all the episodes, but I can’t find the dvds nor can I find the videos on the net.

So frustrating! I’d buy the ones from Amazon, but I just can’t justify the expense at this point!

Argh. If I had only seen and bought the series in Ruins when I had the chance…

Rock Star: Supernova

Last year, my sister and I were totally hooked on Rock Star: INXS. In fact, because of this, I really started liking INXS the band (wish I could watch the concert here on Aug 17, but that’s another story!). I loved watching Marty, MiG, Suzie, even Jessica, JD, and the rest. Their performances were really fun — Marty’s Baby One More Time (and everything else he did!), MiG’s Baby I Love Your Way, Suzie’s Roxanne, Bohemian Rhapsody and so many other things.

So last night, I eagerly anticipated Rock Star: Supernova. Dave and Brooke were still there, as were the fantabulous house band (Rafael and the rest). INXS was replaced by Tommy Lee, these guys from Metallica & Guns N Roses and a music producer.

The show was…long. The contestants were not as good as last year, with some who are quite annoying. There were some who were pretty good (Storm, Josh, Patrice, and the girl who sang Melissa Etheridge’s song, off the top of my head), there were some which were just cringeworthy (Dilana, Zayra, the guy who sang Roxanne, the Iceland guy, and this other guy who annoyed me but somehow, I can’t remember his name OR what he sang. Duh). Obviously, the not-so-good outweigh the good.

I don’t know if I’ll continue to watch it. I hope it gets better — last year’s show just really hooked me with the great performances, and I’m hoping they get it together again this time around.

Hah! Sarah’s gone! I’m so happy about the twist in today’s episode. So now, the sexpot’s gone, and the only thing I’m waiting for now is for Rotu to throw the next Immunity Challenge so they can vote Sean or Rob off. Hopefully, Sean will be first. He’s such an arrogant, lazy a*hole that he’s just so annoying to watch, really. And yay, for Gina! She reminds me of Teresa from Survivor: Africa, in that she was given a new leash in life with the tribeswitching. Too bad the switch didn’t happen before Hunter got booted out!

klasmeyts: a mini-review

I watched Klasmeyts, ABS-CBN’s latest offering on the boob tube tonight. It is on its third week, I think, so I decided to see whether the hype that the network has been trying to pump has at least some sort of basis. They are propping it up as a live comedy skit show , a la SNL, I suppose. It is topbilled by Paolo Contis, Bayani Agbayani, Michael Flores, Keempee de Leon, and Herbert Bautista.

The show is not entirely live, of course. There are pretaped skits, interspersed with the live *antics,* if you can call it that, of the five mainstays. The live parts are mainly of them standing around in the set, talking to each other, and shooting their mouths off whatever topic. One of the live segments also included an interview with Joyce Jimenez, which served to tittilate the male part of their viewers. In fact, most of the show seemed geared to the male population. As is the case with most of the comedy shows here, scantily clad girls are part of the decoration. Regardless of whether they know how to act or not, they’re there for eye-candy.

Speaking of acting, there was nothing spectacularly comedic about the actors there. Some might have a few funny moments, but for the most part, they just seem to be trying too hard. The jokes and gags on the different skits feel tired. They’ve been done and rehashed in various shows. Going Bananas/Bad Bananas, Tropang Trumpo, and Bubble Gang come to mind. The jokes have been passed on from person to person before that; whether by people casually joking around, joke books, or e-mail.

There is still a lot of room for improvement for this show. Hopefully, the writers, and everyone else involved with this show, will realize it despite the loud ring of self-congratulatory applause in their own network.

What the heck happened in Survivor today? Are the Maraamu people so dumb that they booted Hunter out, even though he was obviously the guy who could help them out the most? And the cutest one? *grumble grumble* So who am I gonna root for now, aber?

Meanwhile, just caught the first two episodes of The Amazing Race 2 on AXN. It was pretty fine, but I think I need a bit more time to see the contestants play out their characters more before I get involved. If there’s one reality show that I’d like to join, it would really have to be this one. A chance to travel with a close friend/relative/whatever, and get to have all sorts of adventures along the way? Count me in!

I wish I could go travelling again this year. Anywhere. Anyplace. Anytime. Well…let me qualify that. Anywhere safe, where there’s no war going on. See, I’d like to keep travelling, not get stuck someplace where I can be maimed, kidnapped, or killed. So ruling out a few countries, give me a plane ticket, a bit of pocket money (I’m not an expensive traveller), and I’ll be good to go.

Did you know that for a time, Texas used to be called “Nueva Filipinas” or New Philippines? Random fact generated by the million peso question at Game KNB. If it’s wrong, blame Kris Aquino. Heh. Just kidding.

race around the world

Ooh..Can’t wait for The Amazing Race 2! Another season of a race around the world! If you’re in Asia and you have AXN, it will be shown on March 14 at 8 pm. Mark your calendars! If you’re not in Asia and you get to watch the eps before I do, no spoilers please. Just making sure, because I had two big spoilers last season for both Survivor: Africa and TAR 1. :)

So if you want to see more of the world, with a lot of adventure and fun and a bit of intrigue thrown in, don’t forget to catch the series!
